A gang of 10 individuals has been apprehended in Hyderabad for allegedly attempting to sell a newborn baby, according to police reports from Monday.

The 15-day-old infant has been rescued and is now under safe custody at a child welfare center.

The prime suspect orchestrated a scheme to sell newborn babies to childless couples, convincing a financially struggling couple to part with their baby for Rs 2.50 lakh, as stated by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Task Force) Y V S Sudheendra. The gang then tried to find buyers through brokers, using an instant messaging app to circulate the baby's photo.

Acting on a tip-off, the Commissioner’s Task Force Police, South Zone, and Chandrayangutta police successfully arrested the gang and rescued the baby. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Juvenile Justice Act, and further investigation is underway.
