The Supreme Court granted interim bail on Wednesday to Saumya Chaurasia, former deputy secretary to Chhattisgarh's ex-chief minister, who is implicated in a money-laundering case associated with a coal-levy scam.

A bench of Justices Surya Kant, Dipankar Datta, and Ujjal Bhuyan acknowledged that Chaurasia had been in custody for over a year and nine months, yet no charges had been framed, nor had the trial begun.

The court instructed the Chhattisgarh government not to reinstate Chaurasia until further notice and mandated her to appear before the trial court when required, prohibiting her from influencing witnesses.
