Green Tribunal Imposes Symbolic Fine on Surveyor General

The National Green Tribunal fined the Surveyor General one rupee for not complying with its orders related to tree felling for a road project in Uttar Pradesh. The tribunal criticized the Surveyor General for failing to respond or appear virtually and postponed further proceedings to October 4.

The National Green Tribunal has levied a symbolic fine of one rupee on the Surveyor General for failing to comply with its directives.

The tribunal was addressing a case concerning the alleged felling of over 1 lakh trees and shrubs across three forest divisions in Uttar Pradesh for a road project.

The bench, led by NGT Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava, noted the Surveyor General's absence and lack of compliance, stating that strict action was considered but not taken, expecting regard for tribunal orders.
