In a fresh escalation of violence, two empty farmhouses in Manipur's volatile Jiribam district were destroyed by fire, allegedly by militants, police reported on Sunday.
The arson occurred in the Nungkhal area late Saturday night, targeting properties owned by Hilghat gram panchayat pradhan L Somorendro. Security forces are on site conducting a thorough investigation.
This incident follows another attack in the region, where militants engaged security forces in a gunfight after bombing a nearby village. Ethnic tensions between the Meitei and Kuki communities have resulted in significant unrest and displacement since May last year.
