A New Peace Formula for Lebanon and Israel

In recent statements from Beirut, U.S. Special Envoy Amos Hochstein has articulated the need for an innovative approach to resolving the enduring conflict between Lebanon and Israel. He believes that merely adhering to UN Resolution 1701, which demilitarized southern Lebanon after 2006's strife, will not suffice.
Resolution 1701 ended the war between Israel and Hezbollah, mandating that the territory be devoid of all troops and weapons except those of the Lebanese state. However, Hochstein's comments suggest a growing recognition that this measure alone can't sustain long-term peace.
The U.S. actively seeks a comprehensive, lasting solution that might break the cycle of conflict once and for all, underscoring Washington's commitment to fostering stability in the region.
