The United States has reiterated the need for 'meaningful accountability' from India concerning its investigation of an alleged plot to assassinate Sikh separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun on American soil.
The Indian government has firmly denied any involvement in the purported conspiracy, describing it as false. Following the allegations made by the US, India has initiated an inquiry committee to examine the issue. 'We continue to expect and want to see accountability based on the results of that investigation,' stated State Department Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel during a recent news conference.
This comes amid reports of a visit by an Indian inquiry committee to the US for discussions. 'There was valuable engagement last week, and information was exchanged between our governments to further our respective investigations,' Patel noted. The investigation remains active, and developments are expected following these talks.
