Supreme Court Grants Bail in Controversial Excise Policy Scam

The Supreme Court has granted bail to businessman Amandeep Singh Dhall, embroiled in a corruption case pertaining to the excise policy scam. The decision came from a bench comprising Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan.

The bench considered that Dhall has been incarcerated for over a year, while the trial is still pending with 300 witnesses yet to be examined by the CBI. This prolonged process contributed to the court's decision to afford Dhall this relief.

Under the conditions set by the trial court, Dhall is required to appear at every hearing. His prior appeal for bail was rejected by the high court in June, following his arrest in April last year by the CBI. Dhall also faces allegations in additional cases connected to the scam investigated by the CBI and ED.
