Crackdown on Illegal Firecrackers in Kolkata: Over 600 Arrested

In a determined effort to curb illegal activities, Kolkata Police have apprehended 601 individuals over a 24-hour period for bursting prohibited firecrackers and disorderly conduct, according to a police officer. The crackdown is part of heightened enforcement during the festive season in West Bengal.
Notably, over 700 kg of banned firecrackers and 79.4 litres of liquor were seized. Additionally, over 800 individuals were prosecuted for various traffic violations across the city, as celebrations for Kali Puja and Diwali intensified the festive spirit amidst strict regulations.
A police statement detailed that 265 arrests were made for bursting firecrackers, with additional detentions for disorderly conduct and gambling. The Traffic Police cited numerous violations including riding without helmets and drunken driving, underlining the continued efforts to maintain order during the festivities.
