The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed two First Information Reports (FIRs) in connection with a bribery scandal involving an Enforcement Directorate (ED) assistant director based in Shimla. The proceedings come after an unsuccessful sting operation aimed at trapping the accused, who managed to escape, officials revealed on Monday.
The investigation highlights bribes allegedly demanded by the officer, totaling Rs 165 lakh, from educational institute promoters in Himachal Pradesh. The whistleblowers, who also lodged the complaint, have accused the officer of harassment and coercion for bribe payments.
Amid the ongoing probe, arrests have been made, including the officer's brother and a middleman, while the primary suspect remains at large. Initial searches have led to the recovery of around Rs 1 crore, including the bribery proceeds, prompting the transfer of implicated officials to Delhi.
