In an impressive sweep against drug smuggling and crime, the Punjab Police have seized over a ton of heroin and nearly a ton of opium in 2024. Inspector General of Police Sukhchain Singh Gill announced these significant numbers on Tuesday.
The operation led to the confiscation of drugs worth Rs 14.73 crore and the arrest of 8,935 smugglers, including several major figures. The police also investigated and solved significant crimes, from high-profile murders to attacks on establishments, all under the leadership of Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav.
The force's efforts extended beyond drug trafficking, targeting gangsters and terrorists with the arrest of hundreds and seizure of numerous illegal weapons. The Punjab government's commitment to law enforcement modernization aided these successes, showcasing a year of substantial law and order improvements in the region.
