Kerala's Policing: Allegations and Accountability in Spotlight

Kerala's Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, dismissed allegations from the opposition UDF of a breakdown in law and order, asserting that actions are being taken against rogue officers. Despite recent policing controversies, Vijayan highlighted government efforts to maintain accountability, while the opposition staged a walkout, demanding stricter law enforcement.

Kerala's Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan firmly denied allegations from the Congress-led UDF regarding criminalisation in the police force and failure in maintaining law and order during an assembly session on Wednesday. Vijayan claimed that necessary actions have been implemented against errant officers.

The opposition's notice to adjourn the House was denied, prompting them to stage a walkout, protesting the government's inaction. UDF MLA N Shamsudeen cited incidents like the Palakkad double murder and alleged police assault in Pathanamthitta, arguing them as evidence of police inefficacy.

In defense, CM Vijayan acknowledged certain failures but affirmed that officers were suspended and investigations are ongoing. However, Leader of Opposition V D Satheesan argued that connections between police and criminals are rising, criticising low conviction rates and alleging political protection for goondas.
