UK Foreign Minister David Lammy met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Thursday to resume the UK-China Strategic Dialogue in London. This forum, last convened in 2018, focuses on bilateral issues and represents a step toward normalizing the strained relations between the two nations.

Lammy indicated that the meeting would cover a broad array of topics, including bilateral economic cooperation and critical national security concerns. While the discussions are expected to address significant areas of agreement, Lammy also acknowledged existing points of tension between the UK and China.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer's spokesman noted that international security and the ongoing war in Ukraine will also be on the agenda. Since coming to power, the Labour government has prioritized mending UK-China relations, which had deteriorated significantly under previous Conservative administrations.
