The tabling of the joint parliamentary committee report on the Waqf Amendment Bill, 2024 in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday sparked significant controversy. The session was marked with demands for the report's withdrawal and brief adjournments as heated arguments unfolded between the treasury and opposition benches.

Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge led the charge, alleging that dissent notes of opposition MPs were removed from the report—a claim dismissed by Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju. As the uproar intensified, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar urged members to respect President Droupadi Murmu's message, yet the clamor persisted, leading to adjournments.

Following the chaos, Union ministers Bhupender Yadav and Nirmala Sitharaman accused opposition parties of misleading the House. Despite allegations, Rijiju asserted that the report remained intact, prompting opposition MPs to stage a walkout while the session transitioned to the Question Hour.
