The woman, a resident of Kukuraha village in the Garhwar area, reportedly faced harassment and physical abuse from her husband, Jaylal Rajbhar, over dowry demands. The police acted swiftly, arresting Rajbhar following a complaint from Sunita's mother, Seema Devi, residing in Bhadesar village.

The authorities registered an FIR against Rajbhar under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Dowry Prohibition Act. Prompt action led to Rajbhar's arrest at Chogda Chatti canal bridge, ensuring legal proceedings proceed in response to this grievous occurrence.
