A special MP/MLA court has brought charges against nine Muslim leaders, encompassing prominent figures such as former Uttar Pradesh minister Saiduzzaman and former MP Kadir Rana. The charges stem from allegations that they incited communal tensions during a panchayat meeting in 2013, a situation that spiraled into violent clashes in Muzaffarnagar and neighboring areas.
The unrest tragically resulted in the deaths of over 60 individuals and led to the displacement of more than 40,000 people. Special Judge Devendra Singh Fauzdar has officially framed charges against these political figures. Among those charged are Congress leader Saiduzzaman, Rana, former MLAs Noor Salim Rana and Maulana Jamil, and several city board members, including Asad Zama Ansari, Sultan Mashir Advocate, Naushad, Naushad Qureshi, and Salman Saeed.
The proceedings continue, with the court setting the next hearing date for March 5. Prosecutor Neeraj Singh confirmed that initial charges were filed against 10 individuals for delivering inflammatory speeches at a Muslim panchayat held in the Khalapar locality on August 30, 2013, although one individual, trader Ahsan Qureshi, has since passed away.
