In a significant crackdown on misinformation, the Uttar Pradesh Police have initiated legal action against 53 social media accounts in the past month. These accounts have been accused of spreading fake news about the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj. The move came after directives from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to curb the spread of false information.

The Director General of Police (DGP), Prashant Kumar, announced that a comprehensive strategy has been developed to tackle the issue. This involves continuous cyber patrolling by police and expert agencies to monitor and counter misleading content on social media. Several misleading posts were identified, including old videos falsely linked to the Maha Kumbh, causing widespread concern.

Authorities have debunked several false claims, ensuring public safety and security.
