Odisha's Battle Against Trafficking: A Five-Year Overview

Over the past five years, Odisha has faced significant challenges with trafficking and missing persons. In the last five years, Odisha has reported a concerning number of missing individuals: 36,420 women and 8,403 children, according to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. The assembly was informed about these alarming figures on Monday.

Majhi revealed that 421 women were trafficked out of the state, with 453 arrests made in connection with such cases. The police have been proactive in filing cases and tracing trafficked individuals, Majhi noted in his written response.

From 2020 to 2024, authorities successfully traced 1,417 women and 1,857 children who were previously missing. Efforts to tackle trafficking have included setting up 36 Integrated Anti Human Trafficking Units across vulnerable districts, and strengthening both police patrolling and specialized training for officers.
