Amidst heightened tensions during a temple festival near Thalassery, over 50 CPI(M) workers allegedly detained police officers who attempted to arrest an activist. The CPI(M) member in question was accused of attacking four officers during the celebrations.

According to Thalassery police, the altercation occurred amidst clashing political groups, sparking a series of confrontational events. As officers moved to arrest the accused on Thursday afternoon, they were reportedly locked in a room by the activists, allowing the suspect to escape.

The episode underscores ongoing tensions between the ruling Left party and the BJP, which boiled over during this year's temple festivities. Police say at least 27 CPI(M) activists are implicated in this incident, raising serious concerns about law and order in the region.
