The suspects, all from Gujarat, were intercepted following a raid on a rented bungalow in the Pilerne village, located near Panaji. The arrests pertain to the Champions Trophy match between India and Bangladesh.
The police, acting on credible intelligence, moved swiftly to apprehend the suspects and confiscate betting equipment. The evidence gathered includes four mobile phones, a laptop, and a router, cumulatively valued at Rs 1.1 lakh. These items were purportedly used to facilitate the betting activities.
The three accused, identified as Maksud Modan, Aasifbhai Jiyaudeenbhai, and Rizvan Bhash, now face charges under the Goa Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act. This operation showcases the continued efforts of law enforcement to curtail illegal gambling activities in the region.
