The parliamentary standing committee on home affairs faced tough questions from opposition members regarding the under-utilisation of funds and rising crime rates against women and children in Delhi.
The committee, chaired by BJP's Radha Mohan Das Agrawal, convened to assess the Ministry of Home Affairs' (MHA) budget demands for 2025-26. Trinamool Congress MPs highlighted that two-thirds of the Nirbhaya Fund remained unused, raising concerns over the efficient implementation of city safety projects for women.
Additional discussions centered on increased budget allocations for border infrastructure, slow Census activities, and inadequate funding for prison modernisation, victim support, and island development. A Congress MP voiced worries about Delhi's high crime rates and case backlogs.
