The United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, delivered a stark warning about the erosion of global security frameworks. Speaking at the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva, he emphasized that the agreements which have sustained peace for decades are deteriorating, threatening global stability.

Guterres highlighted the growing distrust, rising insecurity, and increasing military expenditures as destabilizing factors. He called upon nations to break this cycle by adhering to nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation commitments, suggesting these measures are crucial to restoring a spirit of mutual restraint.

The Conference on Disarmament, which has included sixty-five member states such as the United States, China, and Russia since 1979, plays a pivotal role in these discussions, overseen by the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA).
