DGMO Reviews Indo-Myanmar Border Security and Infrastructure During Manipur Visit

Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of the Indian Army, conducted a two-day visit to Manipur on 24 and 25 February 2025. The visit aimed to gain a comprehensive understanding of the security situation along the Indo-Myanmar Border (IMB) and to assess ongoing border infrastructure development efforts in the state.

During his visit, Lieutenant General Ghai engaged with key state leadership, including the Honourable Governor of Manipur, Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla, the State Security Advisor, the Chief Secretary of Manipur, and the Director General of Police, Manipur. These high-level interactions focused on evaluating the operational preparedness of the Indian Army and assessing the security environment along the IMB and adjacent fringe areas.

A major highlight of the discussions was the emphasis on a 'whole-of-government' approach to addressing security concerns. The DGMO underscored the importance of inter-agency coordination between the armed forces, state administration, and law enforcement agencies to ensure a cohesive response to security challenges. He also reviewed the current status of border management and stressed the necessity of enhancing surveillance, infrastructure, and defensive measures to safeguard the region against transnational threats and illicit activities.

Lieutenant General Ghai conducted an on-ground assessment of strategic locations along the IMB, where he examined the state of border fencing, patrolling mechanisms, and logistical support systems in place. He also interacted with field commanders and troops stationed in the region to discuss their operational challenges and reinforce the Indian Army's commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the area.

The visit highlighted the synergy between military and civil authorities in their joint efforts to normalize the security situation in Manipur. The DGMO reiterated the Army's dedication to supporting state-led initiatives aimed at restoring stability, strengthening infrastructure, and ensuring the welfare of the people in the region.
