The Punjab and Haryana High Court was updated on Tuesday concerning the formation of a committee addressing the absence of MPs from House sessions. This development includes the case of jailed MP Amritpal Singh, who petitions for his right to partake in parliamentary proceedings.
The committee, led by MP Biplab Kumar Deb, was established on February 24, as confirmed by Additional Solicitor General Satya Pal Jain. This committee will evaluate applications for leaves of absence from Parliament, scrutinizing cases like that of Amritpal Singh.
Singh argues his detention breaches his constitutional privilege to attend the House. The high court has postponed further hearings to next week as Singh’s counsel seeks time for arguments. Meanwhile, Singh insists his absence undermines his constituency and risks vacating his parliamentary seat.
