Punjab's finance minister, Harpal Singh Cheema, announced a significant milestone in the state's battle against drugs, revealing an 86% conviction rate in drug cases over the past three years. Cheema emphasized the government's unwavering commitment to eradicating drug trafficking from the region.

The state has launched a stern anti-drug drive named 'Yudh Nashian Virudh' (war against drugs), with law enforcement intensifying operations to crack down on smugglers. A series of recent raids led to the registration of 1,072 FIRs and the arrest of 1,485 drug peddlers under the NDPS Act.

Efforts have seen the seizure of substantial quantities of illicit substances, including heroin and opium, alongside targeted demolition of properties linked to trafficking activities. The administration also initiated over 1,000 awareness meetings in educational institutions to combat the crisis, amidst a directive from the Chief Minister to rid Punjab of drugs within three months.
