In a pointed address at the Gujarat assembly, Congress MLA Jignesh Mevani urged the state's BJP-led government to consider withdrawing legal cases against marginalized communities such as tribals, Dalits, OBCs, and Muslims, similar to the recent case withdrawals for Patidar agitators.

Highlighting the government's budgetary allocations for the Social Justice and Empowerment Department, Mevani applauded the decision to overturn charges against Patidars but questioned the disparity in treatment towards other communities, citing the ongoing impact of the 2016 Una flogging incident and other protests.

Moreover, Mevani spotlighted issues of illegal land encroachment affecting Dalits and tribals, calling for prompt government intervention. He demanded the restoration of land rights to the original owners and advocated for the establishment of special courts to handle cases under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
