EU vs. US: Trade Tensions Escalate Over Tariffs

U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer criticized the EU for retaliating against Trump's tariffs on steel and aluminum. In a forthright statement, U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer denounced the European Union for implementing retaliatory tariffs against President Donald Trump’s heightened steel and aluminum duties. Greer accused the EU of enacting trade policies disconnected from global realities.

Since assuming office in February, Greer made a rare public declaration, highlighting the EU’s response to U.S. tariffs. He emphasized that the EU's tariffs on $28 billion worth of American goods appear contradictory to the bloc's previous resistance toward collaborating with the U.S. on addressing global metal surplus issues.

Greer further asserted that the EU’s actions neglect U.S. national security interests, as well as broader international security, characterizing the bloc’s approach as misaligned with contemporary trade and economic needs.
