On Thursday, Kaushambi police apprehended Krishna Shekhar Rana, 66, accused of masquerading as an Omani high commissioner. According to police reports, Rana was enjoying diplomatic privileges by using counterfeit documents.
Upon arrest in Ghaziabad, officials confiscated a Mercedes, an identity card, and several visiting cards from Rana. During interrogation, he admitted to receiving VIP security under this guise. He was formerly linked to the India GCC Trade Council, enhancing trade with Gulf nations as its trade director.
Further inquiries revealed Rana’s past as a Zoology professor and owner of institutions in Agra and Rajasthan. Post-retirement, his role as an Appraisal Authority in the Environment Ministry raised further questions. Despite his claim of vice-chancellorship across four universities, confirmations remain partial.
