The incident occurred in Tora village, north of North Darfur's capital, el-Fasher, according to Adam Rejal, a spokesperson for the General Coordination, assisting displaced people in Darfur.

Brigadier General Nabil Abdullah, a Sudanese military spokesperson, refuted claims of targeting civilians, suggesting the allegations arise whenever their forces address hostile threats. The assault devastated a major part of the village's weekly market, with footage from Support Darfur Victims showing extensive damage and charred bodies.
