Tensions flared during a religious procession in Hazaribag district, Jharkhand, when stones were allegedly pelted, igniting unrest, police reported on Wednesday. The incident, occurring near Jama Masjid Chowk around 11 pm Tuesday, involved a procession as part of Ram Navami celebrations.
Hazaribag sub-divisional police officer, Parameshwar Kamti, confirmed stones were thrown from both sides, necessitating police intervention through firing in the air to restore order. Authorities asserted that the situation is now controlled and security measures are intact at the location.
While the exact cause remains undetermined, locals indicated a dispute over communal songs led to the escalation. Ongoing efforts to identify those responsible are underway to ensure further disturbances are prevented.
