In Lithuania, rescue teams are tirelessly working to excavate a peat bog within a military training zone, aspiring to recover a submerged U.S. military vehicle. The operation, involving four missing U.S. soldiers, enters its second day.
After reconnaissance, Lithuanian Defense Minister Dovile Sakaliene announced that the vehicle, an M88 Hercules armoured recovery model, was discovered over five metres beneath the surface. Water has been drained, allowing physical recovery operations to commence.
The operation underscores the partnership between Lithuania and the U.S., with American ambassador Kara McDonald emphasizing the allied bond. Despite logistical challenges, the mission remains focused on recovering the vehicle and finding the soldiers, while discussions for increased U.S. military presence in Lithuania are ongoing.
