Assam Enforces Strict Border Restrictions to Combat Extremist Threats

In response to potential extremist threats, strict restrictions have been imposed along Assam's India-Bangladesh border. The order, effective immediately, limits movement and transport of key commodities between sunset and sunrise. It aims to prevent illegal activities, ensuring regional peace and security for the district.

On Tuesday, stringent restrictions were enforced in Assam's Cachar district along the India-Bangladesh border, targeting potential extremist movements and unauthorized transportation of goods and cattle. This is according to an official statement from the district administration.

Invoked under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita by District Commissioner Mridul Yadav, the directive is in response to emerging reports suggesting possible extremist activities threatening the district's peace and security.

The order prohibits nocturnal movement within a one-kilometer border belt and restricts certain activities on the Surma River. Additionally, transport of essential commodities across a 5-km belt is barred unless authorized, with exemptions for government officials on duty. These measures will remain effective for two months.
