A 32-year-old man accused of raping his sister-in-law and recently released on bail was found dead at his residence in Firozabad, police confirmed on Saturday.
Identified as Shivam, also known as Tanu, the man was discovered hanging in his home in Humayunpur late Saturday night while alone, authorities stated. His family reported that he was originally from Akbarpur in Kanpur Dehat district and was accused of rape, which led to his detainment and subsequent release on bail.
After appearing in court on June 17, family members noted that he exhibited signs of depression and withdrawal. Station House Officer Yogendra Pal Singh reported that police responded to a call regarding the apparent suicide, and investigations are ongoing alongside the existing court case against him.
