The opposition AIADMK has called for a CBI investigation into the Sivaganga custodial death case, citing a loss of faith in the state police by the public. This demand follows allegations of police misconduct and severe injury findings in the post-mortem report of the deceased, Ajithkumar.
AIADMK leader Edappadi K Palaniswami criticized Chief Minister M K Stalin, accusing him of enacting a "drama" over the incident and demanded accountability from the government. He dismissed moves such as a case transfer to CB-CID as insufficient gestures lacking public trust.
In response, Chief Minister Stalin announced that five policemen have been arrested, and further disciplinary actions have been initiated, including placing the district police chief under "compulsory wait." Actor Vijay and political figure Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam leader urged the formation of a Special Investigation Team.
