The custodial death of Ajithkumar, a temple security guard in Tamil Nadu's Sivaganga district, has ignited a widespread uproar. Opposition parties, including the AIADMK, are intensifying pressure on the ruling DMK, seeking a CBI or SIT investigation into the incident to ensure justice.
The controversy has escalated with widespread protests in various towns, as opposition leaders, like AIADMK's Edappadi K Palaniswami, accuse the state government of failing to provide safety and transparency. The incident has also reached the Madras High Court, where a video allegedly showing plainclothes policemen assaulting Ajithkumar was submitted as evidence.
The state government, led by Chief Minister Stalin, asserted that strict action has been taken, including the arrest of five policemen and the suspension of six police personnel. State Law Minister S Reghupathy reiterated that no one involved will be shielded, as calls for justice continue to rise.
