Former TMC Rajya Sabha MP Santanu Sen on Friday moved the Calcutta High Court, seeking permission to file a petition challenging the West Bengal Medical Council's decision to suspend his registration as a doctor for two years.
Justice Amrita Sinha granted permission to Sen to file the petition and said that the matter will come up for hearing on Monday.
Council president Sudipto Roy had said Sen was suspended for allegedly making unsubstantiated claims about possessing a foreign medical degree during practice.
Sen's lawyer claimed before the court that the council did not communicate its decision to suspend him, and that he came to about the move through media reports.
His lawyer also said that at a meeting of the council on Thursday, Sen had submitted the required documents and answered queries related to the degree in question.
