India-UK Ties Strengthened Amid Concerns Over Extremism

India raised concerns with the UK about the activities of pro-Khalistani elements on British soil. In a meeting with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the importance of not allowing extremist ideologies to misuse democratic freedoms. Both leaders agreed to strengthen bilateral ties and counter extremism together.

In a significant diplomatic dialogue, India expressed its concerns to the UK regarding the activities of pro-Khalistani elements operating from British soil. Prime Minister Narendra Modi underscored the necessity of preventing extremist ideologies from exploiting democratic liberties during a meeting with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer at Chequers.

Modi, accompanied by Starmer, highlighted that both India and the UK share a mutual stance against double standards in combating terrorism. The talks witnessed gratitude from India towards the UK's robust condemnation of the Pahalgam terror attack, while emphasizing accountability for those misusing democratic freedoms.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated that India apprised the UK of the growing threat from extremist elements, implicating the safety of diplomatic missions and reviving violence. Despite these concerns, Modi noted ongoing cooperation from the UK to address these challenges. The discussions also focused on enhancing bilateral trade with the landmark Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement signed during the meeting.
