The fugitive, who is missing his left hand, was discovered hiding near a derelict building in Thalap, within the confines of Kannur city, as per visuals broadcasted on local TV channels. Reports indicate that he had been concealing himself inside a well located near the building.

The 2011 Soumya murder case shook the nation and ignited debates on women's safety in public spaces. The 23-year-old victim was assaulted on a train from Ernakulam to Shornur, leading to Govindachamy's conviction for her heinous rape and murder.
