A tragic incident unfolded in a hill district near Peruvanthanam, where a 64-year-old man lost his life after a wild elephant attack. The victim, identified as Purushothaman from Thampalakkad in Kanjirappally, was engaged in tapping rubber trees when the elephant emerged from the nearby forest.

The sudden appearance of the elephant gave little chance for Purushothaman to escape as it charged at him, according to local police reports. Despite his efforts to run, he succumbed to the attack at the plantation in Mathampa.

The authorities have sent his body to the Government Medical College Hospital in Kottayam for a post-mortem examination. This incident highlights the ongoing conflict between humans and wildlife in regions where their habitats intersect.
