Rinku Singh Rahi, an IAS officer newly appointed as Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Puwaiyan tehsil, began his tenure with an unexpected gesture. On observing the tehsil office littered and people urinating in the open, he made those accountable perform public sit-ups as a corrective measure.
However, when advocates criticized the overall unclean state of the premises, including dirty toilets and stray animals, Rahi took personal responsibility. He performed sit-ups publicly, admitting the administration's failure to maintain cleanliness—a moment that was shared widely on social media.
Rahi explained to the striking advocates that his actions were a deterrent against repeat offenses. In acknowledgment of the criticism, he noted past efforts to clean the area. Despite ongoing challenges, he accepted the situation warranted his humbling act of accountability.
