Defence officials from Thailand and Cambodia convened in Malaysia on Monday to engage in preliminary talks ahead of a critical ministerial meeting on Thursday. The discussions occur against the backdrop of a tenuous ceasefire reached last week, following intense clashes along their shared border.

High-level defence ministers from both nations are set to meet at the General Border Committee on Thursday, with international observers from the United States, China, and Malaysia. The talks aim to solidify the ceasefire agreement, although lingering mistrust complicates the efforts.

While both countries assert commitment to the truce, Cambodia accused Thailand of violations involving construction in disputed areas. Meanwhile, Thailand insists on the stability of their positions, but tensions persist as Cambodia calls for the release of 18 captured soldiers, which Thailand says will occur after a full conflict resolution.
