Supreme Court to Hear Imran Khan's Bail Plea Amid May 9 Violence Allegations

Pakistan's Supreme Court will hear former PM Imran Khan's appeals against bail denial in May 9 violence cases. Khan, jailed since August on corruption charges, claims innocence regarding the violence during NAB custody. The apex court's hearing, postponed in July, is set for Tuesday.

The former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, is set to have his appeals heard by the Supreme Court on Tuesday, contesting the denial of bail linked to the events of May 9. A media report on Sunday clarified these charges against Khan, who remains imprisoned.

Filed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader, the appeals address rejection by the Lahore High Court for eight cases tied to the unrest that flared up on May 9, 2023, subsequent to his apprehension from the Islamabad High Court. Allegations claim Khan orchestrated these attacks on military facilities.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi will preside over the hearing, alongside Justices Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui and Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb. After its adjournment in July, the Pakistan Supreme Court will now revisit Khan's case amid his ongoing imprisonment concerning various legal matters post his April 2022 ouster.
