A 37-year-old grocer in Ahmedabad tragically died after setting herself on fire in response to a shop demolition notice by the civic body, according to police sources. The incident highlights ongoing tensions between local shopkeepers and municipal authorities.
Narmada Kumavat, the victim, was captured on a viral video dousing herself with kerosene and igniting the flames. The incident occurred following a confrontation with Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation officials outside her shop in Jashodanagar on August 14.
In a desperate attempt to save Kumavat, her husband Ramesh and three other individuals suffered burn injuries and were promptly hospitalized. Local merchants organized a foot march to protest what they claim is harassment by local authorities.
