India Debunks Social Media Fundraising Hoax for Nurse on Death Row

Efforts continue with other governments for resolution. Priya was found guilty of murder in 2017, and her execution was postponed after Indian intervention.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has categorically dismissed social media posts soliciting monetary contributions for the case of Nimisha Priya as fabricated. Priya, an Indian nurse convicted of murder in Yemen, is on death row.
The MEA's fact-checking team, named MEA FactCheck, shared a screenshot highlighting a user's post that falsely claimed government endorsement for monetary contributions. The misleading post included slogans and bank transaction details purporting to aid Priya.
India insists it is employing all resources in Priya's defense and is collaborating with several governments to find a resolution. Priya's execution, initially slated for mid-July, has been deferred following negotiations by Indian diplomats. She remains incarcerated in Sana'a, under Houthi control.
