A 21-year-old man from Birkenhead, Liam Shaw, has been sentenced to 14 weeks' imprisonment for sending racist threats to former British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. Shaw will also face a two-year restraining order, prohibiting any contact with Sunak or his constituency office during that period.
The court proceedings revealed that Shaw had sent two offensive emails to Sunak's public parliamentary address. These emails were detected by Sunak's assistant and immediately reported to authorities. Shaw pleaded guilty to the charges in Liverpool Magistrates' Court last month.
Senior Crown Prosecutor Matthew Dixon emphasized the seriousness of abusing direct communication channels with MPs, stating that such actions undermine democratic processes. Shaw's sentence includes a 12-month suspension with strict stipulations, and completion of rehabilitation programs.
