Sri Lankan Navy Bolsters Security with Japanese Grant

The Sri Lankan Navy is set to receive a grant of 500 million Japanese Yen, approximately USD 3.3 million, from Japan to enhance its security capabilities. This grant will fund drones for surveillance and monitoring tasks. The agreement is pending presidential approval during an upcoming visit to Japan.

The Sri Lankan Navy will soon benefit from a significant boost to its security capabilities, thanks to a 500 million Japanese Yen grant from Japan, equivalent to around USD 3.3 million. This financial support is part of the Official Security Assistance Project, as announced in an official statement released on Tuesday.

During a meeting on Monday, the Sri Lankan Cabinet approved using the grant to aid the Navy's official security services. The funding will be directed towards equipping the Navy with drones, enhancing its ability to conduct investigations, surveillance, and monitoring activities effectively.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is expected to formalize this agreement with Japan during his upcoming visit, for which dates are yet to be announced. Additionally, the Cabinet has authorized the Navy to manage maritime security operations, crucial for the safe passage of merchant vessels through Sri Lanka's waters.
