Tripura Shuts Down Controversial Bar for Excise Law Violations

The Tripura government revoked the license of a newly opened bar-cum-restaurant due to several excise law violations, including serving liquor beyond permitted hours and hosting unapproved dance events. Criticism arose following complaints broadcasted live on social media. The owner can still operate the restaurant portion.

In a swift response to multiple violations, the Tripura government has suspended the license of a bar-cum-restaurant just 10 days post its inauguration. Officials stated that the establishment defied excise laws by serving alcohol past the permitted hours and conducting dance events without approval.

The bar initially received backlash after a man was refused entry for not being accompanied by a partner, leading him to broadcast his outrage live on social media. This incident prompted a police intervention to manage the chaos that ensued.

Senior Congress leader Sudip Roy Barman criticized the move, alleging that the establishment lacked necessary clearances from the Fire Service and health department before opening. The government has allowed the restaurant to remain operational, despite the bar's closure.
