The Supreme Court on Monday directed the Delhi Police to provide a response regarding the bail pleas of activists involved in the 2020 Delhi riots case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
A bench comprising Justices Aravind Kumar and N V Anjaria has issued notice over petitions filed by Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam, Gulfisha Fatima, and others, scheduling a further hearing for October 27.
The activists, presenting their case from prison where they have remained for over five years, insist the actions were part of peaceful protests against controversial legislation like the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.
