In a commendable display of efficient policing, the Bengaluru police have successfully reclaimed Rs 14 lakh swindled from Preeti, wife of BJP Chikkaballapura MP K Sudhakar, in a sophisticated cyber fraud operation termed 'digital arrest.' The crime took place on August 26, when fraudsters, masquerading as Mumbai Cyber Crime Police officials, deceived Preeti via a WhatsApp call.
Believing a fabricated story about unauthorized transfers from her bank account, Preeti was coerced into transferring Rs 14 lakh to an alleged verification account under the threat of arrest. Alerted to the fraud, Preeti quickly contacted the National Cyber Helpline and filed a police complaint, prompting an immediate investigation.
Acting on the court's directive issued on September 3, the police ensured the entire amount was promptly returned to the victim's account from the frozen fraudster's bank. Authorities are actively pursuing leads to apprehend the culprits and advise the public to report any such scams immediately to prevent financial losses.
