An alleged illegal cattle transporter was injured after police opened fire during a high-speed chase in Dakshina Kannada district, officials revealed on Wednesday.

The incident unfolded Tuesday evening in Puttur taluk when Abdullah, 40, a resident of Kasaragod, Kerala, attempted to flee from authorities while transporting ten cattle in a vehicle. Despite police signals to halt, Abdullah continued his escape, initiating a 10-km pursuit that eventually led him to collide with the pursuing police jeep.

This prompted a sub-inspector to fire, hitting the vehicle and injuring Abdullah in the leg. He was quickly moved to Wenlock Hospital, Mangaluru, for medical care. Police confirmed Abdullah's history of similar offenses, while efforts continue to locate an accomplice who evaded capture.
