An elderly resident of Jharkhand's Chatra district became the victim of a violent attack by villagers on suspicion of practicing witchcraft, according to police reports.

The incident unfolded in Rakshi Chedikhap village on Tuesday evening, leading to serious injuries for 50-year-old Umesh Rai, who was beaten and had his ear slashed by villagers convinced of his involvement in sorcery.

Police officer Bipin Kumar stated that Rai has been transferred to Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital in Hazaribagh for advanced medical care. One individual has been detained in connection with this assault, and the investigation remains ongoing.
